Ok, to bring everyone up to speed without writing a whole book :))

Walmart is STILL pushing for a supercenter.

But just when you think all hope's lost, something weird & cool happens - another company, Our Family Foods, jumped into the ring & dropped a bombshell.....

When walmart built, they signed an agreement with Our Family to the effect that any major expansion riquires approval of the other signers of the aggreement,

OF's lawyer showed up at a council meeting, and layed it out in no uncertain terms that....
OUR FAMILY WILL NOT AGREE TO WALMART'S EXPANSION!

YES! a major champion's taken up the cause!

But we as intelligent citizens of this city and country STILL need to deal with the sellouts, the traitors to this once great country!

City Council Meeting - 08/21/07

Well, this is going to be a little heavier on the information than my usual postings......

For starters, who should be seen entering city hall to attend the meeting but the LOCAL WALMART MANAGER, with two burly types in tow.... as if walmart was going to resort to mafia-type "strong arm" tactics.

THEN, just after roll call (lol), Alderman Mann Decided to try more "person agenda pushing....

Mann: "Mister Mayor, I also would like you to, for the next regularly scheduled council meeting, I would like you add - as my request - was that, we, add to the next common council agenda an item regarding the composition or the make up of the city plan commission. I won't go into any much history other than to say that, that ah, I requested and we looked at it, and it didn't make the agenda tonight so I just wanted to make sure it was on next time. And, my basis for this is, ah, common council code, ah, 2.02 peren 3, ah c - 'agen,' ok, 'the agenda, once adopted shall be the order of the business, and any new business may be introduced as part of the agenda for the next meeting of the common council.'

Mayor Voegele: "Surely we'll consider that, Mister Mann."

( long 3 second pause...) Mann: "CONSIDER it??????... Ok..... I hope you'd do more than that..."

Myaor Voegele: "We will consider it."

ROFL! In the past, he's tried telling the mayor what to do, AND even tried snooping over the mayor's shoulder when the Mayor was reading something - does this guy EVER know when to quit??? (By the way, it WAS noticed that Alderman Mann has apparently been moved from just to the right of the Mayor, to over near the left end of the "horse-shoe". :)) )

During the public comments for item #13 - Large retail ordinance, a number of people spoke. the most notable were Tom Wagner (who made the threat that if Walmart is not allowed to expand, they COULD sue the city), and a LAWYER FROM MILWAUKEE REPRESENTING WALMART!

(I was going to post - word for word - their statements, but the vhs tape used to record the meeting screwed up partway through Tomczak's statement and continued most of the way through Wagner's. Rest assured that the meeting WILL be retapred, and this post edited to include those statements AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE.)

It should be noted that Walmart's milwaukee attourney Debbie Tomczak has so far traveled up here from milwaukee AT LEAST TWICE(that is known at this time) for the express purpose of speaking in favor of walmart expanding in Sturgeon Bay - the other documented time was for the common council meeting on August 7th, 2007.

In the end, the city council approved the changes to the "Big Box" Ordinance - changes which INCLUDED REMOVING ANY SIZE CAP.

Alderman Vandertie, hower, DID bring up an interesting point concerning walmart's expansion: That in addition to the Economic & fiscal impact studies, they will ALSO need to apply for anexation.

THE FIGHT IS FAR FROM OVER, MY FRIENDS! "THE FAT LADY HAS YET TO SING" - so there is still hope.

And a new nationwide(& hopefully WORLDWIDE in the future) group is in the process of being formed.... caling themselves the "Sons Of Liberty" with the goal of drawing together ALL seperate local groups under one united banner to fight against such evil and greed as represented my Walmart, Gannett, and others. WE MUST TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK IF IT IS TO EXIST!

How useful is our local fire dept????

As of about an hour & a half ago, Sturgeon bay fire dept responded to a report of heavy smoke at the holiday motel - right at the east end of the downtown bridge.

Get this, they have 2 pumpers, 1 mini pumper, 1 tanker, 1 ladder truck, and 1 rescue truck from the city.... AS WELL AS 1 pumper, 1 mini pumper, and 1 rescue from the southern door fire dept...... And they have only started (as of this writing) to try and put it out!!!!! Even then, there are only 3 people actively fighting the fire - the rest are just standing around WATCHING!!!
WHAT.... THE..... F***!?!?!?!?!?! When did the fire dept turn wimps??? And WHY are the citizens paying for all these firefighters when they're not doing anything???

This personally makes me SERIOUSLY wonder about the usefulness of having a mostly part-time fire dept. It was as if most of them only responded so that they could claim another paycheck....

Major Structure Fire Devastates Holiday Motel

Traffic was redirected through Sturgeon Bay for three hours yesterday after a fire destroyed the attic and second level of the Holiday Motel. Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief Tim Herlache said no one was injured and the fire was put out before it swept through the rooms on the upper level. Herlache said because of smoke and water damage most of the motel will need to be gutted.
Manager Anna Sacks said the first thing on her mind when she heard there was a fire was the safety of those staying at the Holiday. The community support was beyond belief, according to Sacks.

Fire Chief Herlache said the emergency call came in at 11:19 a.m. The call reported that smoke was coming from the roof. When the department arrived there were no flames poking through the structure. Herlache talked about the department’s reaction to the smoke.

Firefighters used 5,000 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze. Herlache said the American Red Cross went above and beyond again. He also thanked Stone Harbor for hosting the displaced Holiday Motel residents.
The Southern Door County Fire Department and Door County Emergency Services provided mutual aid at the scene. Southern Door sent three rigs and 15 firefighters and 25 responded from the Sturgeon Bay department......

Fire damages Holiday Motel

A fire, which may have started in a second-floor bathroom and spread to the attic, damaged the Holiday Motel on N. Second Avenue in downtown Sturgeon Bay, Sunday morning.

Thick, brown smoke poured from the attic on both sides of the motel around 11:15 a.m. and grew thicker over the next hour, blanketing much of downtown Sturgeon Bay in a haze.

The hotel was full at the time, according to owner Pat mAcdonald, and several people had to be awakened and told to get out of the motel.

No one was injured.

More than 30 firefighters, including many brought in off-duty, responded from the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department with support from Southern Door.....

CRIST ON A FIRE ENGINE!!!! No matter HOW MANY TIMES they're told we don't WANT one, walmart is STILL preasuring the city to let them build a f***ing supercenter!

NOW they've resorted to their usual tricks of whining to the county board & recruiting gullible citizens into supporting then in their efforts!

184,000 square feet - and that's just the building! Build + parking lot/retaining pods will cover an area bordered by a cemetary, the house behind Econo foods, 14th ave., and egg harbor road! What they want to build is larger than the area taken up by cherry point mall! Don't believe me? See for yourself in the images below!

And of course, roughly 1/4 of the size of their actual supercenter building will be devoted to GROCERIES! With how predatory & bullyish walmart is, how long do you think places like Pick n Save & Econo Foods will last before walmart drives them out? And what happens to the employees of those two stores when they close? No doubt all of them will wind up having to apply at walmart.... most will likely be hired. BUT - there will be some who aren't.... Where will THEY go, when walmart starts running OTHER STORES out of business???

WHEN wil you people REALIZE that walmart is not God - they're not even your friend! They are just using you to get what they want, which is.........

TOTAL BUSINESS DOMINATION!

Think I'm wrong? Then how do you explain their attempt to start their own bank? Or their "walk-in clinics"? Or their decision to carry groceries? Or any of the other little schemes they've pulled or trying to pull?

Walmart has their own realty division, their own air service, and did you know they even have their own version of the cold wat era KGB - in charge of "DEALING" with any employees and/or stores (here in the US) that should consider unionization?

If you people would just open your eyes and pull you finger out of your ears and LISTEN you would come to realize real fast that your favorite store is LYING TO YOU!

Council To Discuss Egg Harbor Road

The Egg Harbor Road renovation project, rezoning part of the Hopf Property and community sensitive design elements will all be things discussed at tonight's Sturgeon Bay Common Council meeting. The issue of improving Egg Harbor Road has hit the council agenda again. After an initial presentation by City Engineer Tony Depies, the issue was turned over to the Finance/Purchasing and Building Committee. The item on tonight's agenda is a recommendation to proceed with the Two Way Left Turn Lane design on Egg Harbor Road in conjunction with the Traffic Impact Analysis that will be needed for any WalMart expansion. Including guard rails along the bike lane will also be discussed.

Also tonight, the council will look at zoning map amendments for a parcel located off of Highway 42/57, just south of the Sturgeon Bay known as the Hopf property. The council will consider rezoning some parts from Agricultural to a combination of single, two or multi family residential.

A recommendation from the Finance Committee to transfer $2,500 from general fund reserves to cover the city's financial participation in 2007 Legislative Days will also be considered.

In addition, the council will vote on paying one-third of the actual cost for relocation of transmission wire to allow for timely construction of the bridge approach for the Maple to Oregon Bridge.

Tonight will also be Mayor Dennis McIntosh's last meeting. McIntosh will give a report tonight that will include a review, critique, observation and his perspective with regard to the performance of Sturgeon Bay during the last 36 months. Along with McIntosh, tonight may be the last meeting for a couple other council members. Seats 1, 3, 4,5 and 7 are up for re-election. If available, election results will be announced at the end of tonight's meeting. Tonight's Sturgeon Bay Common Council meeting will be in the Council Chambers at 8:00PM.

A member of Door County Residents For Fair Enterprise believes the Sturgeon Bay City Council should put on the brakes to the Egg Harbor Road renovation project. The item on tonight's council agenda is a recommendation from the Finance/Purchasing & Building Committee to proceed with the "Two Way Left Turning Lane" on Egg Harbor Road in conjunction with the Traffic Impact Analysis that will be needed for any WalMart expansion and to include guard rails along the bike lane. Member Christie Weber believes this item regarding the Egg Harbor Road improvement, has hidden text that should be made more clear. She says along with the improvements is verbiage that includes approving the water run off plan and a third lane for a Super WalMart.
Weber says while everyone else is busy helping with election night and waiting for the results in Sturgeon Bay, the city staff and Mayor will be busy trying to force the city, under false pretences, into paying for Super WalMart's road widening improvements and water run off costs with a simple "yes" vote to pave Egg Harbor Road. Weber does not understand why this topic was not discussed at the Plan Commission and she is concerned about pedestrian safety with the added lane. In the current plan, there is nothing about adding sidewalks.
Weber is calling on all residents to attend tonight's meeting to send a message to the Common Council and the mayor. She is hoping that the council will vote this issue down until public comment from all residents is heard. Weber hopes that by their presence, some council members will reconsider the issue and vote against the recommendation.

You know, I'm getting more than a little tired (read - "PISSED OFF") over the constant scheming by the snobs who only think of themselves. From the outset, I KNEW "Rotten Apple" would make a piss poor mayor - I've heard many bad things about him when he was with the police dept, and KNOW what he's like first hand from my owbn dealings with him.

EVERYONE, please be sure to show up down at city hall tonight - try to be there early (say around 7:45pm) just in case they try to throw us off by dealing with it early (as they've tried to do with "secret plans" twice in the past). We need to protect not only ourselves but our neighbors as well. NOBODY - either friend or foe - should wind up unemployed because of their self-centered tactics.

We MUST protect and defend one another - to stand alone, individually against these threats to our well being will result in our defeat.

Door County citizens urged to oppose Wal-Mart expansion
Fair Enterprise responds to the latest SuperCenter proposal

It is critical that the Mayor and City Council hear community reaction to the proposed SuperCenter. Therefore, Fair Enterprise has written a petition. It can be sent to the council via e-mail, or if you prefer, it can be edited, then sent. You may also decide to write your own letter. Additionally, if you live in the city of Sturgeon Bay, you may want to talk to your alderman.
In a recent conversation with a city alderman, Betty Parsons says, "I was told the council thinks the new proposal meets with resident approval, as there have been almost no statements of concern from constituents. So, input is critical and your opinion could well make a difference."
Fair Enterprise encourages citizens to take a few minutes to state your position to elected officials, as the community's integrity, environmental health and economic viability must be protected.
The following petition, which was written to save time, should be cut 'n pasted into an e-mail and sent directly to Sturgeon Bay City Hall at info@sturgeonbaywi.org. Clerk will provide hard copies to the Mayor and City Council (elected officials have not provided e-mail addresses for the public) and will e-mail copies to city staff.

What did we have to hide, you know? I think all we do by not opening up communication in the city is just build distrust. When I become mayor I've told people I want to open up those council meetings, definately committee meetings, people have said 'well how are you going to do that? it's going to be chaos - you're going to have 2 or 3 people that always come there and they've got something to say and nobody can get a word in edgewise.' But it can be done - where there's a will there's a way - and a lot of the people I've talked to say that that's very important. So that's my number one issue - to improve communication in the city, and open it up so everyone get's an opportunity to be involved in the process.

Now I ask you - WHICH of them do you think will be a better mayor - someone who puffs up their chest patting themselves on the back for all their accomplishments? Or someone down to earth who actually cares about others instead of only thinking of himself???

Warren Bluhm refuses to print, acts only semi-sane.

SO, for the past month I have been TRYING to get a letter to the editor printed - a response to a pro-walfart letter written by a VERY clueless old woman. Warren Bluhm has from the start stonewalled me, claiming I do not exist. Finally, I scanned in the front of a package with my name and address on it - shipped in august 2005 as further evidence that I DO in fact exist.

This is in response to Mrs. Julius Vertz and her letter on walmart.

This great nation was founded on freedom. to state there is no way to win
so why try makes it sound as if you are NOT an American.

It is true - walmart WOULD lower prices, but do you know how they do it?
They do it by dictating to those farmers and manufacterers the price they will buy products for. What that means is each year, walmart expects those suppliers to sell at a lower price than the year before, which winds up pushing them to export all production overseas, costing american's their jobs.

Soon, despite moving production overseas, the prices walmart demands are so low that those American companies wind up going totally out of business.
Walmart does not care about us. They do not care how many people they hurt, or what laws they break (and they have broken A LOT of them, and been busted for it) or how many water supplies they poison. They only care about getting gullible people into their stores to buy cheap junk that the overseas labor winds up cutting corners on just to break even.
Saying you want a supercenter up here is like screaming out loud "I love
satan". Is that what you want people to see in you - someone who wants cheap junk and will sell not only their soul but everyone else's to get it?

By the way, like you I'm not rich - far from it. But I REFUSE to accept
help from such a disonest and greedy company.

Felhofer said the city has begun to improve its development process with the passing and amending of the “big box” zoning ordinance. Felhofer said the ordinance is not sufficient by itself.
The Sturgeon Bay mayoral candidate also laid out a plan for improving the city’s development infrastructure. He said that can be done by creating a long-range “green infrastructure” plan. Felhofer said development of that plan, regulations and incentive programs would help to insure preservation and enhancement of the City’s natural infrastructure. The city plan commissioner also stressed that his experience is what sets him apart from his opponent. Felhofer was elected to the city council in 2000, was a member of the finance committee, community protection and services committee, Door County Library Board, Sturgeon Bay Visitors and Convention Bureau board and was appointed to Sturgeon Bay budget and Services Ad Hoc Committee.
Over the next several weeks, Felhofer plans to go door to door to talk with the citizens of Sturgeon Bay. At the press conference, he stressed that this will be a time for him to listen to the real issues that face people in the city every day.

Felhofer heard a report that when a Supercenter opens in a community, the price of groceries drops approximately 17%. He equates that to about six weeks of free groceries per year. The mayoral candidate said that for the average family of four that is barely making it from paycheck to paycheck this savings is huge. He talked about the advantages of a WalMart Supercenter.

The Senior Manager for Public Affairs with Wal-Mart for Wisconsin Lisa Nelson said the discount retailer's real estate team will be in the City of Sturgeon Bay on Tuesday. Wal-Mart has a meeting with the city staff scheduled for January 30. City Administrator Kevin O' Donnell will be holding the meeting with the Wal-Mart people and said he will release the information that has been discussed behind closed doors after the fact. For much of 2006 concerned residents came together to start the "Stop the Big Box Movement." From what Lisa Nelson had to say, they have lost that battle. Wal-Mart has plans to add to their existing facility.
Two summers ago, picketing and numerous letters to the editor were weekly occurrences over the "Stop the Big Box" issue. Nelson said the planned expansion will be more amiable to the people of Sturgeon Bay.The Senior Manager for Public Affairs with Wal-Mart for Wisconsin said they are still working out some details. The meeting next week will bring a lot of clarity to this issue. Employees of McClure Engineering Associates were taking readings on the land last week. Surveyors got all of the information needed during their time in Sturgeon Bay throughout the week of January 15. Wal-Mart representatives plan to meet with city of Sturgeon Bay staff Tuesday, Jan. 30, to discuss the possibility of expanding the retailer’s existing store on Egg Harbor Road into a Supercenter.

Wal-Mart public affairs senior manager Lisa Nelson said details are not confirmed and the meeting with City staff is preliminary.“The city has not seen a conceptual site plan yet, so this is an exciting first step to get their feedback and input,” Nelson said. “We’ve looked at a lot of different sites with different community organizations that have something at stake, such as the Department of Transportation. Expansion on the current site in back of the existing store eliminates the concern of leaving another empty big box.”Nelson said Tuesday’s meeting is a preliminary discussion about applications and what information the city will need from Wal-Mart. A construction timeline depends on when the company gets plan approval, Nelson said. It is not a public meeting, according to City Administrator Kevin O’Donnell. He did not give any specific information about the meeting.“They asked to meet with us,” O’Donnell said. “We’ve been encouraging them from the beginning, if they’re going to expand the facility, to look at their existing site. “Months back, they indicated they were doing that, didn’t hear from them for a long time, and now we’ve heard from them.
”The anti-big box group Door County Residents for Fair Enterprise released a statement Friday morning in support of Wal-Mart’s expansion on the existing site. “By dropping the other devastating sprawl relocation sites from consideration,” wrote Kyra Valentine, spokeswoman for Fair Enterprise, “this stopped the creation of new competing commercial districts and unfair competition for our existing businesses.“We feel it’s a win,” Valentine continued. “We’re optimistic and it’s great that Wal-Mart wants to stay within the existing business district. We’re happy that sprawl is not occuring. We’re not going to pass judgment or form an opinion until (Wal-Mart) presents an official plan. We hope the new expansion design will take into consideration the economic and environmental impact.”The company had previously looked at property along State 42-57 and Alabama Street, but the city turned down a rezoning request for that land last summer.

What those IDIOTS at Fair Enterprise don't seem to GET.... is that ANY supercenter ANYWHERE in Sturgeon Bay is going to force many other businesses OUT of business! By turning their normal store on Egg Harbor road into a supercenter (Which includes a huge grocery dept, likely a gas station, and more) Econo foods, Pick n save, Autozone, Bay Pharmacy, Phillmart, Butch's auto, Subway, and the former Cenex gas station up on 18th will ALL wind up being forced out. Where will all of those unemployed people find work? SOME will wind up working at the very place the made them unemployed, Others will have to sell everything they own just to keep food on the table.

ANOTHER thing none of you are looking at is a service that Econo Foods provides - namely DELIVERY! During the spring especially, when the freighters set sail, Econo foods reprovisions those ships. Do you think walmart will take over when they force Econo to close?

I want to stray off the walfart topic for this post to comment on a continuing problem that is NOT being properly dealt with.

The problem?
SCHOOL SHOOTINGS!

You ever notice how teachers tend to tell those being bullied to "just ignore them" and refuse to do anything about it??? and how school officials waste huge amounts of money on security to stop bully victims from bringing weapons into school - in effect dealing with the EFFECT instead of the cause??? Why is that? Are they STUPID? Do they want to turn our schools into a form of incarceration?

WHAT THE F*** ARE THEY THINKING OF????

What kind of weird ass logic is spending $10,000's of dollars per school on metal detectors, armed guards, sniffer dogs, and more - when at most hiring a couple people to patrol the halls stopping bullying would be SO MUCH CHEAPER????

And then you have the LEGAL aspect of it - NEGLIGENCE by the teachers and school staff!

Any teacher or school official who looked the other way while this kid was being bullied should be charged as an acessory to murder. They had the chance to do something before this happened, yet ignored it while singling out the victim for "rules harrassment".

My own nephew could have become like this kid. In school, he was being messed with BIGTIME! The teachers wouldn't do jack sh** about it! Fortunately for him, I'm not lazy like most other americans. When I found out about it, and the fact that even the other members of our family wouldn't do anything..... I DID! I showed up during reccess to see several kids shoving him around - and NOT in a playing manner. I walked up to my nephew, put my hand on his shoulder, and stared down the bullies for close to a minute before telling them "no more. If he's starting crap with you, you come tell me. if you push him around after this I'll make SURE you regret it." There were never any problems on either side after that.

Teach your kids that if they see someone else being bullied, they should take an active role in trying to stop it! Even if the get hit by the bully for it, don't you think getting hit is better than getting shot and killed???

A reprieve, and a loss

Well, only around 50 people showed this this time, no doubt because they scheduled the meeting the day after a federal holiday.

The new council chambers are smaller than the old ones - WTH???? It's like they don't expect or want people to show up for the meetings. Poor Dan (the Chief of police) wound up playing go-for, dragging in plush office chairs from the different employee offices (which looked like they cost around $200 each).

The FIRST public hearing - GREAT SCOTT - took about 2 hours!!!!!!!!!

The comment that stuck out the most was made by a transplanted Brit (who earned a lot of instant respect by stating):

If you'll look behind me, I think, you're in the minority"

When it was all said and done, the city council voted to table the anexation.

They then moved on to changes in the "Big Box" ordinance.

After a shorter period of public comments, the city council voted to approve the current changes and accepted it as is - WITHOUT a size cap, and WITHOUT a definate impact study on local businesses, opting instead to study JUST the impact on city services.

In other words, THIS FIGHT IS NOT OVER! We as concerned citizens MUST redouble our efforts, not only to oppose the commercial developement out there, but also to get the word out to EVERYONE in this county!

The document regarding next tuesday's business agenda for the city council.... is OVER 60 PAGES!!!!!!!

Included in the document is every little detail from meetings of the last several months, much of it having nothing to do with the anexation! Purchases for the new government building, purchases of services and equipment for various city dept.'s, expense lists, ANOTHER ANEXATION for the duluth ave area, and S***LOADS more!

It's as if they (city government) is trying to make it as hard as possible to find it. Oh, it's there alright. but you have to go through 3/4's of the document before you get to it.

Even then, they decided to throw in every little detail, such as listing the codes & laws word for word, in an attempt to bore and/or confuse people.

Damariscotta, Maine, Rejects Wal-Mart and Endorses Size Cap

On Tuesday, voters in the small town of Damariscotta, Maine, overwhelming approved a local law barring stores over 35,000 square feet (about the size of a medium grocery store).
The vote puts an end to Wal-Mart's plans to build a 187,000-square-foot supercenter in this village of just 2,000 people.
The measure was approved by a 62 to 38 percent margin in what officials say may be the largest election turnout in the town's history. More than 1,200 ballots were cast, representing about 80 percent of voters.
Damariscotta has a lively downtown and numerous locally owned businesses, including an 85-year-old grocery store, a pharmacy, bookstore, hardware store, and department store.
There are already three Wal-Mart stores to the north, west, and south of town, each about thirty minutes away. Last year, Wal-Mart announced its intention to further saturate the region by opening a supercenter on the outskirts of Damariscotta.

Let's review, shall we? "LOOKS LIKE A WARZONE" Is commonly heard in regards to dizaster areas, or kids rooms (lol). The term "BECOME A WARZONE" is used to denote a scene of chaos or wild behavior (such as a big party).

NOW, the term "LEAVE TOWN IN A HURRY" generally refers to a person or group who are in trouble for wrongdoing or who were caught in the act.

THEREFORE, DRBEAR's comments of "I think Homeland Security would be interested." Could be taken, and in fact very likely IS, an attempt at intimidation in an effort to silence a critic of his crooked friends - be they GANNETT, the city government, or WALMART. Then you also have the deliberate "mountain out of a mole hill" attempt, Claiming I am threatening others to try and cause me needless problems.

Just so everyone will know and be forewarned - Trying to intimidate someone like me is a stupid thing to do. Instead of scaring me, it pisses me off to the point of wanting to kick your a** up into orbit. In other words, if you're thinking of trying it against me....

MICHAEL FELHOFER, are you brain dead or what??? How exactly do you figure that walmart is not as bad as people say??? Do you REALIZE that YOUR job in banking is ALSO THREATENED by them???? Yes, they are attempting to start their own banking division. And if you believe them when they say "It's for in house credit card transactions only" then you should NOT be on the planning commision! All you need to do is look at their past actions to understand that have the habit of LYING to get what they want! They do not give any thought whatsoever to contaminating the environment, lying, using dishonest tactics(such as dropping their prices below retail to drive all other businesses out), and anything else they dream up - just so long as they squeaze a few more dollars into their corporate pockets!

MAN, you should have seen it! 100+ people Marched 2 blocks down the main street towards city hall on both sides of the street! Once they arrived, they began marching around & around the block containing city hall, being led by a guy using a washtub as a drum, pounding in time with chanting such as "This is what democracy looks like", "Just say no!" and "What do we want - SMART GROWTH. When do we want it - NOW!"

Cars going past were honking horns and giving thumbsup signs in support! A camera crew arrived from WFRV channel 5, the local CBS affiliate from green bay, followed by one of their remote "live broadcast" vans(pictures from their footage below)!

The end result??? The city council voted 7-0 to reject walmart's request for anexation! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now there is a planning commision meeting tomorrow night at 7pm, where a big box size cap will be reviewed.

In spite of all the claims that Walmart has no intention of building a supercenter up here, I would warn EVERYONE not to let your guard down - they have the nasty little habit of misdirection and outright lies.

One city in Ohio found that out the hard way. Walmart wanted to build a huge building, the city council began working on a size cap, and walmart abandoned the plan. THEN, when the city dropped it's idea of a size cap - thinking walmart was gone - WALMART rushed in and built before the city could do anything.

Want to know just how much space a supercenter would take up here in sturgeon bay? The composite photo on the left is to scale within aprox. 2 feet (meaning if you were to blow it up lifesize, there would only be slight size difference between cars in the lot & cars on the highway)

As you can see, a supercenter is HUGE! It dwarfs all the other so called "Bix Boxes" in both building size AND overall size - coming close to the size of cherry point mall!

McIntosh claims no plans for supercenter

In the Door County Advocate, Our excellent and totally honest (COUGH bullshit CUOGH) Mayor Dennis McIntosh Claimed that neither the land sounth of town had been annexed, nor that he has had any contact with Walmart outside of meeting with the local WM manager.

He held a press conference about it - yet no-one against walmart was allowed to attend (Christie Weber was refused, and I've heard of a couple others who tried to attend to report it on various news sites/blogs were turned away.

What do I say? DO NOT EXPECT HONESTY FROM MCINTOSH! I have known him since he was Capt. of the police dept, and I can tell you that he is far from honest. Others Who know him will tell you the same. A man with the initials of CK tried to speak to him, and Mayor McIntosh noticed CK and immediately turned and hurried away - as if he were afraid of answering questions. CK is only one of many who have noticed what could be called "Suspicious behavior" by our mayor.

HE IS HIDING SOMETHING.

I've worked hard to make sure the Trump name is found only on buildings of the highest caliber and products of the finest quality. I won't even consider giving my
approval to anything unless I know it's the top of the line because when people
see or hear "Trump," they expect the best. That's just basic marketing and good
business.

Yet on the very first episode of this season's "Apprentice", Trump actually had them selling memberships to SAM'S CLUB!!!!!!!!

Continuing the aerial theme, Trump assigned them the task of selling
Sam's Club Plus memberships with the aid of the Goodyear blimp.

Synergy had outsold Gold Rush 43 memberships to 40.

WTF????? I guess he's just like the majority of other rich p***s - stuff his pockets no matter what, and to h*** with the environment or people's lives.

WELL...... I missed the meeting. (D'OH!) Fortunately, Several people I know went to it. From the initial report this morning, around half the auditorium was filled - including several members of the city council AND members of the county board.

Apparently, one of the council members was made to look like an idiot - the other left at some point not specified. And the county board members seem to be against the "big box" plan by the city. :D

If the tapes turned out, I'll post a transcript of the meeting up here by monday.
