Mayoral Candidate Mike Felhofer Reacts To Supercenter
By Nick Freimuth
February 8, 2007

There is a two-man race for Sturgeon Bay Mayor between Mike Felhofer and Tom Voegele. In the upcoming weeks, DoorCountyDailyNews.com will air a series of stories with the candidates. We will talk about issues like the countywide room tax, WalMart Supercenter and the city's residency requirement.
Today we will start with Mike Felhofer's thoughts on a Super WalMart coming to Sturgeon Bay. Felhofer is on the Sturgeon Bay City Plan Commission and he has spent a lot of time on the WalMart issue. He talked about his initial reaction to the news that Wal-Mart will be expanding their facilities on their existing site.

Felhofer heard a report that when a Supercenter opens in a community, the price of groceries drops approximately 17%. He equates that to about six weeks of free groceries per year. The mayoral candidate said that for the average family of four that is barely making it from paycheck to paycheck this savings is huge. He talked about the advantages of a WalMart Supercenter.

How much are you willing to bet that that "17%" comment was given to him by walmart or one of it's "spin-groups"????

I have outlined in other posts here just what will happen should walmart be allowed to build a supercenter up here. The choice is up to you - will you vote for greed, or will you vote to protect not only yourself but your neighbors?
